Maestro slice frequency v. 6600 slice frequency

I'm new to the Maestro C and understanding the extent of its control over my linked Flex 6600. I'm operating the Maestro remotely to the 6600. I'm running the latest software versions for the Maestro and the 6600. The 6600 is networked with the TGXL, PGXL and AG. I'm able to remotely monitor the TGXL and PGXL utilities. I've noticed that the frequency selected on the Maestro A slice is not the same frequency the TGXL and PGXL are seeing from the 6600 A slice. I can change the Maestro A slice but the 6600 A slice never changes. It is always the frequency from when I last used the 6600. I've been hesitant to transmit using the Maestro until I know exactly what frequency on which the 6600 is transmitting: the Maestro frequency or the 6600 frequency indicated on the TGXL and PGXL. I'm guessing it is the Maestro frequency but I would appreciate an explanation from those who are much more versed in the Maestro's control over the linked transceiver.

Hi, you mention a 6600, but the behavior that you are describing is either a 6600M or a 6600 with a copy of SmartSDR running on a computer connected to it.

It is important to understand that a Flex radio (6000 & 8000 series) is a server that presents all of the data and audio to a logged-in client.

There are two types of clients, GUI clients (Maestro, M model front panel, SmartSDR) and non-GUI clients (loggers, WSJT-X, utilities like DDUtil and FRStack).

Each GUI client (can be up to two) operates as an independent control point. So if you have two Maestros, a Maestro and SmartSDR or two SmartSDR clients connected, the MultiFlex indicator will come on for both stations, and each will control the radio separately, without interaction. Note that the front panel on an M model behaves the same as a Maestro.

Each non-GUI client that you open should be bound (think connected) to a GUI client. So for example, N3FJP ACLog connected to one Maestro to get the proper logging info for it, and a second instance of ACLog (probably on a different computer) connected to the front panel or a second Maestro to get the proper logging info for it.

You can have many many non-GUI clients "bound" to either of the two possible GUI clients. This is how you can run multiple instances of WSJT-X or other programs.

So… All that background to show you that each GUI client is a separate, independent control point.

If you have a 6600M, you can put the front panel into SmartControl mode (check out section 9 of the Maestro manual). Then the only GUI client will be your remote Maestro, and everything should track to that.

If you have a plain 6600, but have an instance of SmartSDR running at the radio site, you should probably not run it. Instead, just run CAT and DAX.

I should have been more precise and referred to the transceiver as a 6600M.

use Smart Control mode on Maestro instead of tapping RUN. This allows you to use the Maestro to control the slices in SmartSDR.

Note - in Smart Control mode you cannot use mic and speakers connected to Maestro. You need them connected to the radio or PAC with PC Audio selected in SmartSDR.

More info in the Maestro v3.x user guide.

I almost made that assumption 😀

So in your case, put the front panel into SmartControl mode and I think that you will get the desired result.
