Issue with SmartSDR connecting to 6400 via PC

I have a 6400 and had updated to SmartSDR v3.8.20 several weeks ago when initially released and has worked fine until this morning (11/30/2024). In fact worked 2 ATNO DX stations last night. This morning, when I start SmartSDR, I get "There are currently no radios available." message on SmartSDR, DAX and CAT. I connect directly from PC to radio. Windows 11 PC. i9 with 32GB ram and NVIDIA 4070 GPU, it's a Dell XPS a little over 1 year old.

I have tried the following: hard radio reset, re-install SmartSDR v.20, turn on/off PC and radio, different RJ45 cables.

Any suggestions?

Wow - sounds like you've diligently tried to exorcise the gremlins (with your resets). When you say "connect directly" I wonder if you have any intervening switch or anything? It does sound like you may be using a single piece of network cable, running from PC to Flex radio, which is really what I'm suggesting and asking you to confirm.

At this point, if you really do have a direct, one-piece-of-cable connection, I can only suggest maybe spray contact-cleaner into the RJ-45 connections, and / or try another cable.

Really, nothing else is going to work if a single cable between radio ⇐> PC can't work.

Please let us know how this fundamental first-step works out. If still no success, perhaps it would be tim efor a phone-chat with Flex Helpfesk.

Yes, I connect directly from radio to PC via rj45 cable. No switches. I also tried different cables. W9TO

When you say "hard radio reset", do you mean a factory reset? If not, I would export profiles and do a factory reset.

Yes, I should have stated factory reset. I just completed a 2nd time and same issue. W9TO

Ah, ok. Assuming that the radio is OK, I would try looking into firewall settings, virus checkers and that kind of thing. SmartSDR uses UDP packets over the Ethernet connection to allow discovery of the radio. Sometimes these are blocked by firewalls and other things trying to keep you safe.

If you don't find something obvious, submit a help desk ticket - Flex Support will have some things to try.

Len, thank you, apparently it was my Norton 360. I opened it and the first screen stated that it was restricting access to 9 of my apps (didn't say which ones) and I could click on making my system Private (as Norton assumed that I was on a Public network) and then I retried launching SmartSDR and it worked. Thank you so muhc, Tom W9TO

Fantastic, I am glad that was all that was wrong!
