Running Remote Digi Modes

A couple or three years ago I used to run SmartSDR on my iPad Air 4, send the DAX audio over the network to my Mac mini or MacBook Pro (along with CAT) and run the digi mode software on the Mac. I used xCAT and xDAX from the Mac to connect to the iPad and this worked perfectly. Back then I was running MacOS Monterey on the Macs.

But it seems that starting with MacOS Ventura xDAX can't get the transmit audio anymore. It gets the receive audio just fine and the digi mode software running on the Mac decodes. But no TX audio. In the audio settings if I look at the audio levels in MacOS it is working and getting the TX audio from the iPad. But it's not getting it from the virtual sound interface to xDAX, and then to the digi mode software.

So this is not a problem in SmartSDR, I suspect it's a problem in xDAX after Ventura came out since xDAX has not been updated for a few years and the developer of it won't release the source code.

Has anybody else tried using a similar setup? If so, have you managed to get TX audio from your iPad into xDAX after upgrading to Ventura or later?

Since the built-in DAX and CAT in SmartSDR Mac works perfectly when running SmartSDR on the Mac, is it possible to use the built-in DAX and CAT in SmartSDR for Mac to connect to the iPad instead of using xDAX? If so, how do you start up DAX and CAT in SmartSDR Mac independent of the SmartSDR program itself?

The whole idea here is to use the iPad to control the radio, and just run the digi mode software on the Mac, which used to work in Montery.

So I did some more testing. I disabled DAX streaming in SmartSDR on the MacBook Pro and tried to use xDAX instead. There is no TX audio in xDAX with the MacBook Pro either.

Unfortunately, it would appear that without an update from Mario, or making the source code (or Xcode project files) available the issue is not going to be fixable.
