How can I edit midi mappings outside of SmartSDR

To cure a problem I was having, I restart SmartSDR for Mac with a clean set of settings. As a result, I lost the key mappings for my midi controller. Luckily I had saved them.

Since I saved them, I manually edited the .map file that was saved to add a missing mapping because it's far easier to do this outside of SmartSDR. However, I now cannot load the .map back into SmartSDR.

I've tested this with an empty .map file and merely adding a single, empty, key, but it then won't load.

Any ideas?
