SmartSDR PC and SmartSDR IOS increased receive audio??

I am running SmartSDR v3.5.9 on a 6600 and PC. I can be listening on any band SSB with my PC and then connect my iPad via IOS with MultiFLEX. When the iPad connects I notice an increase in the received audio on my PC. It does not matter if the PC is listening on a different band or mode than the iPad is connecting on it still will increase. I am unsure why this is happening…. it is an improvement but would rather not have to have the IPAD connected to have increased receive audio. When I disconnect the IOS connection the received adudio will then drop down a touch. Any suggestions and explanations as to what maybe causing this?

Hi Jeff, I don't know why that is happening, but thought I would mention that the latest version of SmartSDR is 3.8.19. I would recommend upgrading to it - it is very stable and fixes quite a few issues from 3.5 - 3.7. It even adds a minor bit of new functionality, Squelch on the phone modes. I mostly use it when monitoring a band (usually 6 meters) for an opening so that I don't have to listen to the static.

Thank you for input. I will be upgrading, I have always been a lurker in the background making sure if there are any issues with and update that they have a little time to work them out prior to putting them on my own devices.

I have also noticed that the WIDE turns on when connecting with my MultiFLEX mode. Not sure if that gives anyone any ideas as to what could be causing the increase in received audio.

Hi Jeff, the wide indicator shows when the bandpass filter is disengaged, so that might be what is happening. Perhaps you are just hearing the insertion loss of the BP filter.
If the MultiFlex clients are on different bands, the BP filters will disengage (and show wide) to allow both bands through simultaneously. If both clients are on the same band, the BP filters will stay engaged for that band and the wide indicator will be off.
Showing too wide a section of the panadapter will also disengage the BP filters.

if the PC and IOS client are using the same RX antenna and the clients are on different bands then as Len noted the BPFs will be disengaged, resulting from a higher noise floor.
Also if the PC has the preamp at zero and IOS has preamp higher, then preamp will be adjusted for the common RX antenna.
If you have different antennas for the two bands you can set up separate profiles with one client using Ant1 and other ant 2 (or RX antenna ports)Dave wo2x
