Flex1500 USB failure due to 3,3V regulator

My Flex1500 no longer talks to the PC. The blue light turns on.
I found out the 3,3V regulator powering the USB circuitry is dead. I took out the regulator and still measure a short circuit on the output, so my best guess is a shorted Tantalum cap.
However the Flex1500 service manual shows a different design as my board. My regulator has a diode in serie with the input not present on the published service manual.
Difficult faultfinding like this...
Is there anybody who has a more recent service manual or can me give tips to what component might cause the short ?

You might try contacting Troy Radio in Troy, Texas. ( they have a website) They may be able to help you. They are the Flex Radio authorized service center for Flex Radio's legacy radios.

Or even the Flex Radio repair centre for EU owners in Germany.
frs-service-eu@t-online.de to ask Norbert Wrede about the issue.

I don't need service, can do that myself with the right docs.0

Yes but he might have them and could provide the info you need. He repairs them after all. This is also what James was saying but I thought the EU engineer would be more convenient to ask. It's just an email but up to you of course.
