wsjt-x ft8 in hound mode

Im trying to work some ofg the dxpeditions in ft8 running in hound mode. Here is my issue…….

Obviously i have FT8 in hound mode in wsjt-x

I set the radio (Flex 6600M) to the foxes transmit frequency on slice A. (as an example 3.571)

I put the radio in split mode

I set my (hound) frequency to 3.572 on slice B

The TX indicator on slice B shows active.

My problem is that as soon as the radio transmits the TX indicator switches to slice A to transmit.

Any idea what im doing wrong? Any help appreciated

Stay on one VFO / Slice. Putting the radio into Split mode cannot help.

Set the radio to the carrier frequency eg 14091, 21091, 3571 in your case. The Fox will be somewhere between 200 and 500 Hz up in audio. Put your TX audio somewhere above 1000Hz. WSJTX in hound mode will handle the split, or rather the shift since there is no split working, i.e TX on your chosen 1000+ TX and change TX to one of the Fox frequencies to send the report when you are called.

Thanks Erik……… Ive set up the way youve suggested. I have my transmit bar set at 1700 in FT8, and my receive set to Rx all Freqs with the green receive bar at 500.

With these settings when I get a response from the other station wsjt-x moves the transmit ((red)) bar to a frequency below 1000. and the contact is lost. Is this the way it should work?

Hi Jim, is this for a station working in Fox / Hound mode which is the question you asked? If so, your RX frequency will go to one of the Fox TX frequencies when you double-click on it's callsign to start the calling. When the Fox sends you a report, your TX will shift to one of the Fox TX audio frequencies to send your R report. If that is not received, WSJTx will try 2 more times and that will include another TX audio shift, usually below the Fox frequencies, to get your TX in the clear. After 3 failed attempts, WSJTx will stop and you have to repeat the process. This of course is with Hound set to on in the software.

For normal FT8, usually conducted on regular FT frequencies of carrier 14074, 21074, 28074 etc, have Hound off and ensure that it is or else you will get unexpected results. It is quite easy to have used Hound and then forget when you go back to regular FT8. Then you can call where you find any clear frequency in the 3khz band width.
