SmartLink config at home

I want to set up Smartlink for an iPhone and an Ipad. I assume its the same software purchase, works on both?)
I looked at the setup pages and it requires TCP and UDP ports setup on the home router. However he past few days I saw YT videos making it look much simpler. Do I have to set up the ports and a fixed port as recommended?

Im new to a 6600 and Windows 10 in the shack.

Planning to use iphone and Ipad remotely. (at home as well but the page says I should not use them at home on the same router)

You do not need to purchase SmartLink, Raul, you only need to register a SmartLink account using your radio and SSDR. Be sure to have a means of asserting PTT, which is required during SmartLink registration for your radio. If this is a pre-loved (used) radio, there may already be a SmartLink account registered to it, which you will need to de-register.

The easiest way to do port forwarding is to use uPnP in your router, if it supports it. Some may caution against uPnP, but with modern software and a simple network it should be ok. Alternatively, you may set up manual port forwards in your router.

You WILL need to purchase SSDR for iPad and iPhone (same software and license work on both if using the same AppleID).

If the iPhone or iPad are on your home WiFi network, and it is the same as the network your Flex radio is on, you won’t need SmartLink and can simply connect to the radio When at home.

For voice I would use the mic and speaker on the iPhone or Ipad right?

Any audio device that works on the iPad or iPhone should work. Others may chime in on what they use.

I guess the remote SmartSDR will auto open Smartlink first

It is not automatic - you need to tell SSDR to use SmartLink, the default is direct using the radio's broadcast message.

    Ted, thank you this helps.
To be sure: for the remote (away from the radio desk) I need to use Smart SDR on the iOS and Ipad OS, and while Im home on the same network it works direct. If I am away from the home network, I use Smartsdr via SmartLink on the same iPhone or Ipad. Also, I know CW will have to be on the keyboard because of the lag issues. For voice I would use the mic and speaker on the iPhone or Ipad right?

Im not an Apple user however this is making me one as I learned the SmartSDR is much better on the Apple devices.

I guess the remote SmartSDR will auto open Smartlink first... I can think about this when I get to this stage. I still have to get the iPad and iPhone set up.

OK got it, thanks. The bigger, next task is getting HRD and WSJTx working.
