Shackmaster 600

Thinking of getting one of these for my flex. Presently using astron SS 50 amp desktop. when testing for RFI in the shack yesterday, the SS 50 had a loud buzzing when I had the am radio next to it. anyone using this PS and what do you think of it.

Hi John, I would check the ham bands with your Flex to see how much (if any) RF interference you get from the Astron. They supposedly have the ham bands filtered for noise, so the AM broadcast band may not be a good indicator.

It does it on all of the HF bands no matter what freq I am on. S6 noise floor on my Flex using that supply on 40 meters, my favorite band. moved the power supply farther away, no change. It's a switching power supply.

You might want to try powering your rig from a battery or linear supply to see if the noise drops. If it does, then it is the Astron causing the noise. If not, then it is likely something else in your shack or a neighbor's house (or just atmospheric noise).

ok. Line noise went down by 1 s unit. I have a vast array of Torroids coming in the next week or so.

will go down that path next.

Ah, so it is a noisy supply. I would tend to get a new supply - either a linear one or a known "ham friendly" switcher. You can add up a lot of dollars on ferrites that might or might not fully solve the problem.

Ordered one from DX engineering. Very nice supply. It got recalled recently. Said something in he supply could fail. As of today, does Flex have them in stock and are they in the recall.

only the batch for DXE are affected at this time. I have mine in operation now a couple of weeks feeding radio, TG XL, AG and LP700. No issues
