When can we expect it to be available?

Are you talking about the hardware manual or SmartSDR 3.8?

If the former, I suspect it will be out about the same time as the units start shipping (early Sept). That's probably about the same time we'll probably see SmartSDR 3.8 and the update to its manual.

Does the 8000 series function on 120V AC or do I need a DC power supply? If so what?
Can the 8600M still be operated from my laptop?
What 8000 series components must I buy with a new 8000 series radio? such as antenna tuner, power supply, other?

Hi Barry, like most modern transceivers, the Flex radios require a 13.8 volt, 25 amp power supply. I personally use a much bigger one to cover multiple radios and station equipment.

All Flex radios can be operated from a Windows or Mac laptop. The minimum computer requirements are documented, but I don't have them handy right now. Since most of the radio's computing is done in the radio itself, you don't need a particularly powerful computer to run SmartSDR. You may want more compute power for other things like CWSkimmer.

Other things that you will need depend entirely on what you have and what you want to do. For example, if you have a resonant antenna for all desired bands, then you probably don't need a tuner. On the other hand, if you have G5RV doublet, you will certainly need one.

Since the changes from the 6000 series radios to the 8000 series radios is internal hardware, I would think that other than the GNSS receiver in the 8600/M basic connections should be the same as the 6000 radios. Initially, operation should be the same with SmartSDR. Once features that will only be available to the 8000 radios start showing up, I would imagine Flex Radio will update manuals for SmartSDR and any hardware specific things that are exclusive to the 8000 radios.
