Will these radios be suitable for ALE work?

Hi Tom… if you mean Automatic Link Establishment, then I suspect the answer is that they would require a separate computer/processor/program with specific software for ALE. (i.e. looking for/evaluating possible connections on other bands to other radios in the network). It could be possibly be integrated with the existing Smartlink software, as with many of the other currently available 'add ons'.

I doubt that the Flex series would be used for ALE in standalone, off-the-shelf mode.

Thank you for your comment, OM Don.

Yes, I mean Automatic Link Establishment.

Since series 8000 for amateur radio use is a simplified version of commercial/government radio, one would hope that it term of hardware (timing, change over time, etc) amateur radio version can work on ALE.

I have a Flex 6700 and use the 2G ALE program at https://ion2g.app.

for SHARES and MARS. It runs on a Windows or Mac platform. It natively supports the 6000-series radios… so I have no doubt that their configuration will also support the 8000 series. I encourage you to register and make a small donation in support of their efforts. The current version is 0.9.8.3 and it considered beta software.

Primary support for the product is through their GROUPS IO page:
