laptop logging when remote

HI,

I'd appreciate help with using a laptop for contest logging during remote operation.

I have smart working well to control my home 6400 during remote operation using a Maestro C. I'm wondering if there is a way to use N3FJP or N1mm to log contacts and take advantage of the CAT interface for entering band and frequency information. Kind of a pain to have to do things manually. Thanks, Tom

just load SmartSDR on the laptop, including CAT for Com ports and DAX if you are going to do digital modes. Log into SmartLink on Maestro. Launch CAT on laptop and log into SmartLink then use pulldown for station on top and select Maestro.

Set up a Com port in CAT for your logging program.

Thank you very much Dave! That works nicely.

One thing, set up this way it seems that the Maestro and the SmartSDR band and frequency are not synched, they seem to operate as separate radios. I don't suppose that matters, since I'd only be operating via the Maestro, as I'd be remote.

    Thanks again!

Hi Tom, each GUI client (Maestro, SmartSDR) is a separate, independently controlled radio.

If you put your Maestro into SmartControl mode, it will sync with SmartSDR (one radio simultaneously controlled from two control points).

To me, this is a great way to operate. You get the large panadapter and waterfall display on the computer coupled with the knobs and buttons of the Maestro.

one comment on Len’s reply. You need to be running version 3.x.x of firmware to support Smart Control mode.

Start SmartSDR on PC or laptop then on Maestro select version but select Smart Control instead of run. It allows panadapter and waterfall on PC but control from buttons and knobs on Maestro.

You can Run from Maestro and just run CAT and DAX on logging PC also. That way your logging program and digital program can be run in bigger windows or full screen.
