turner for the 8400M

I am on the list for a 8400M with AT. I rarely use the tuner on my 6600m. I use a Palstar HF-AUTO. There has been no problems using the 6600M and the HF auto. do you think I could get by with no tuner on the new rig.

Yes, having the HF-Auto should be all the tuner you need and you can use the W1TR control programs to have it follow the radio as you change frequencies.

Not sure about market values "over there"? But on my side of the pond a radio without the built-in AT would be more difficult to sell, and would lose more of it's used value compared to one with AT the day you would like to part with it.

Most transceivers today have AT and most customers takes it for granted when buying a used radio.

Thanks for your insight Guys. Neil. I found that I don't use the second SCU very much. Maybe two or three t imes since I got it. My operating is mainly rag chew and the occasional DX when I hear it. I run a couple 400 mete nets during the week.

Rick. That's where my thinking is on the tuner. I by pass it and use the HF auto. My amp SPE 1.3 K follows the Flex.

Johan. Don't plan on selling it. Age here is 78. I have a KW 890s, Yaesu 101D, and a FTDX 10 as back ups.

Fair enough John. Based on your other radios and their value I guess it doesn’t matter 😎 Then I agree with your plan to skip the internal AT and do as you have planned.
