8000 series recover

While I see lots of people excited by the lack of SD card, it makes me a bit nervous. If an update fails, or I accidentally corrupt my configuration somehow, will my only option be to ship the whole rig back in for maintenance? Or has FlexRadio added a new mechanism that enables recovery and reflashing from home?

Unrelated, there is no category on the forum for 8000 series, or I would use it rather than the 6000 category

The new memory should be much more stable and reliable than the SD cards ever were. New computers use solid state drives and corruption is rarely an issue. I would imagine that Flex Radio will have a system set up to restore the OS back to factory settings should something causes a startup problem. It could be something as simple as a USB flash drive with the OS image on it plugged into the radio to restore the radio. I am pretty sure they have figured out a way to handle this in a reasonable way.

A USB recovery mechanism would make sense, given the availabale hardware, but the capability will only be there if they program it. I'm really looking for confirmation that they have thought this through and aren't going to wait on this particular software dev until after the radios have been shipped, since by then it's too late.

I am not sure how much is shared with the ML-9600 (which started shipping around a year ago), but that radio does not have an SD card either. I don't think they'd sell something aimed at military/government users that they hadn't thought trough. My guess is that the 8000 series uses the same storage/update/recovery mechanisms.
