Hi what type of plugs or adapters do I need to make the Heil Pro 7 headset work with the Maestro C ? And if I want to use the Heil HS-2 PTT trigger all I need is the 1/4 to 1/8 inch adapter Tip sleeve right ?

Thanks

    Hi James,

This has received a LOT of attention since the Maestro C came out so I won't rehash that again. Bottom line, you need to buy or make a splitter. Flex sells one and they're easy to find on Amazon and probably everywhere else. BUT, there are two important things you need to know:

    • the Maestro implements the CTIA variant of TRRS in its 1/8" headset connector on the back
    • the Heil Pro 7 (and the 4O3A and a bunch of others) have a MONO TS 1/8" male mic plug (as they should of course - the mic is mono)

SO, you need a 1/8" male CTIA TRRS to 1/8" female TRS AND 1/8" female TS splitter. That said, I've never seen one for sale. And confusingly the one on Flex's website isn't one either. Instead of a female TRS and female TS, they all have two female TRS and the male Heil mic plug won't work in TRS female. Of course you can just make one that has TRS and TS. Flex's advice is to mutilate your $299 headphones by cutting off the connectors and soldering on a new one. Nope, seriously.

If you don't want to mutilate or make one fortunately this is easy to fix. Also buy (or make) a TS female to TRS male adapter and you're good. Plug that into the mic side of the splitter just described, plug the Heil mic into that and it will work.

All of this is no big deal of course as Flex keeps making sure we don't forget, but the confusion caused by their late and truly lousy communication has been tremendous. Of course, that's actually OUR fault - just ask Flex.

    Good Luck and 73 !

OK lets talk about this CTIA Variant ? From what Google tells me this stands for Cellular Telecommunications industry association is this the correct definition of the term ? I did purchase the Maestro-C Y cable kit and have that. https://www.flexradio.com/products/maestro-c-y-cable-kit/

    Thanks

    Hi James,

Ok, well as I mentioned if you purchased the splitter from Flex all you should need for your Heil Pro-7 mic to work from there is a TS female to TRS male adapter and you're good.
