Maestro Smart Control mode and Split control

I am running the latest 3.6.8. With my Maestro B in SmartControl mode, I have found that I am unable to enable Split mode on the slice/panadapter I am controlling. Is this expected behavior?

On earlier versions of SmartSDR I thought I was able to turn Split on and off with one of the programmed function buttons. I really don’t care to downgrade to test on a previous version.

Hi Eric, are you going into split mode by clicking the SPLIT button on the flag?

You don't mention which Flex 6000 series radio you are using. If it is a 6300 or 6400, you only have two slices available, so you need to have only one slice open when you click the SPLIT button. I have a 6400, so am not sure how things behave on the 6500, 6600 or 6700. I think someone should donate a 6600 to me so that I can learn more about this... 😁

Len, I have a 6600. I can put either of the two open slices on the SmartSDR into split by clicking on Split in the slice flag on the PC. The Maestro in SmartControl mode appears to not have Split in the slice flag area and the function button programmed with Split does not work.

When the Maestro is running in its normal SmartSDR mode. The Split function works.

BTW…very nice work on the Teensy Maestro project. I have not built one. But, have a simplified ESP32 and small touch screen ‘SmartKnob’ prototype controller that interfaces via SmartCAT. It certainly is easy enough to send a Split on/off command to the slice your connected to with a CAT command.

Hi Eric, ok, I understand now. You might want to open a help desk ticket in case there is some trick that Flex knows.

Thanks! The TeensyMaestro is a fun project. Your SmartKnob sounds good! The Flex API, CAT and DAX open up a whole new world of homebrew possibilities!

I went back to the Maestro and did another test this morning prompted by a question from Len. I typically keep 2 panafalls open on my Windows SmartSDR and use SmartControl Mode on my Maestro for the radio control knobs.

If I close the open slice on the second panafall, I can use the function button programmed with 'Split' to command the split function. It pops open a slice receiver flag on both the Maestro and SmartSDR as you would expect.

If I have 2 slices already open in SmartSDR and the Maestro SmartControl connected to both of those slices I cannot command a 'Split' operation from the Maestro. I assume that's because the Maestro only supports control of 2 slices, even though the Flex-6600 can support 4 slices.

What is also curious is that the flag on the Maestro or any other screen that I've noticed indicate 'Split' mode when in SmartControl mode.

I also noticed in SmartControl mode that I can close one of the two open slices on the Maestro, but a pop up says 'Slice limit has been reached. Close a Slice and try again'. The close doesn't close the associated panafall window on SmartSDR on the PC. It just closes the Slice flag. Closing the panafall on the PC doesn't help. Still get the same pop up. I guess these are SmartControl SW features. :)

I've had my Flex and Maestro for about 5 years now and I've never noticed this behavior before.

We'll see if anything changes when updated software comes out with the impending release of the new Maestro.
