Major Version Updates

Good Day all Flexers!

I have been sitting back at version version 2.0 (2.7.6). I have a couple of buddies that I would like to allow to use my radio. I understand that this will require an update to Version 3.0 which will require me to pay the update charge (which is fine). I am ready to jump onto Version 3 now to be able to have MultiFlex. My concern is.... If I buy version 3.0 (3.5.9) today and Flex Releases a New Major version 4.0 will there be another charge? I am assuming there will be.

Here is my question .... if I stay at Version 2.0 and 4.0 is released will I still need to go to version 3? I am assuming so... so that Flex will still be able to get their $$ they deserve for the updates? If this is the case.. I will update to version 3 now!

Thanks for your responses!

    Jeff,

I think the official answer to your question is here: https://www.flexradio.com/faq/what-is-the-software-upgrade-policy/.

The short answer is that if you buy v3.0 today and we were to release a v4.0 tomorrow, we would typically grandfather in recent purchases to the latest version. This of course begs the question of what the grandfather period would be and I don't have that information handy. We do try to be sure to think of these scenarios as we approach a new major release though.

Related question: if I have been happy with v2, but I want whatever v4 is going to provide, can I skip v3 and go straight to v4 when it comes out? (Paying $200)

That was my understanding some years ago.

Oh, what is v4 going to offer anyway? 🤞

Whenever you upgrade to the next major version, (i.e., v2.x to v3.x) there is a $200 charge. If you upgrade to v3.x then V4.x gets released, there's another $200 charge to go to V4.x. Assuming you decide to stick with V2.x, then V4.x eventually gets released, its a $200 upgrade, which includes the V3.x features. As for when (or if) V4.x ever gets released, that's the big question... ˉ\_(ツ)_/ˉ

    Martin,

You can go from v2 to v4 for a single $199 cost.
