How to remotely setup SmartLINK (no local PTT)

Flex-6400 & SmartSDR 3.4.24

I am trying to setup SmartLINK while there is no one at the remote radio site. I can access the FLEX-6400 via the LAN (VPN and RDP) but when I try to setup SmartLINK, I can't as I need to press the PTT key (or CW, etc.).

I tried running SmartSDR at the same time on the NUC but once I tell SmartLINK to register, the MOX button in SmartSDR is disabled. So, no PTT and the SmartLINK registration fails!

  • How can I register SmartLINK without having anyone at the radio site to press the PTT?

If you ask why we want to use SmartLINK, it's because RDP does not support remote DATA and Voice ops in the same session. Teamviewer and RemotePC are not free and we want our club users to have access to voice and data ops. As RDP is not compatible (per Flex), we are looking at asking authorized club members to install and use SmartLINK while keeping the VPN & RDP access to admins.

This is NOT the ideal way, but we are hitting a wall trying to setup a simple remote operation for voice and data. (I am OPEN to suggestions)

The RDP approach was the best as we only had to maintain SmartSDR on the NUC. If we ask everyone to use SmartLINK, we now cross into the "my PC doesn't work" domain.

My personal remote uses a RemotePC subscription ($$) and we don't want to ask our club members to pay for the RemotePC (or TeamViewer, or other) service.

OK ... I answered my own question. I only need to use the PPT once to to activate SmartLINK :-)
