USB to Serial cable not detected by Flex 6500

I am trying to use a Ativa usb 2.0 to serial adapter cable to interface my Flex 6500 with my SPE Expert 1.3K-FA amplifier. The Flex does not detect the cable. I tried the cable on my Windows 11 pc and it is detected as a prolific usb to serial device.

Do I need a specific type of usb to serial adapter for use with the 6500.

Geoff is correct. If you download the "USB Cables Interface Guide for the FLEX-6000", it is clearly stated that only FTDI cables will work.

I believe it must be an FTDI device.

Thank you all for the information. I did download the Interface Guide. I will use an FTDI adapter.

Bob, if you need a cable I have several of the UT232R-200 FTDI USB-Serial cables that are still in the packaging. Just contact me and my email is good on QRZ.

I think the expert amp has FTDI built into its USB port. So, a simple USB cable will work.

Thanks, Alan. I am using Dan Tassell’s cable set between the Flex and SPE. When I insert the prolific usb to serial cable into his serial input, it isn’t detected by the Flex. I will have a FTDI cable shortly.

Thanks for all of your comments. Replacing the prolific usb to serial cable with a FTDI cable solved the problem.

I supplied the FTDI cable to Bob KN4HH. I have several that I purchased from Mouser still in the original packaging authentic UT232R-200 FTDI USB-Serial cables. If you need one send me a email.
