running Flex-3000 with Macbook possible?

I own a Flex-3000. Currently I am using a Dell computer with firewire smartcard and I am using the PowerSDR KE9NS v2.8 software.

Due to the age of the laptop I am thinking in if I shall buy now a macbook computer.
Getting a new computer with smart card slot is not that easy.
As far as I understand, the Flex-3000 can be used on a macbook computer with a firewire - thunderbold adapter.

Now I am struggeling with the software running on the macbook.
1. Can I use the SmartSDR software?

2. Do I need to install windows on the macbook to run the latest PowerSDR KE9NS software?

What does your experience says?

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
