Does the 6600 support an external tuner?

Hi group, I am very new to Flex Radios (less than a week), and I have been pouring over all of the information in this group. I have already been able to find a lot of answers that I was looking for, however, I have been unable to find anything on how to wire up an external tuner to the 6600. I have the built in tuner, but since its limited on what it can tune, I would like to be able to add my external tuner to the radio. Is this possible? and if so, where do I make the connection on the back of the radio?

Depending on the tuner, you can connect it to one the USB ports on the back of the radio. I can do that with my KAT-500 tuner, and it follows the frequency of the radio.

What tuner are you using? Does it support Kenwood CAT commands? If so, it should work.

If the tuner is similar to an MFJ 929 that tunes when a button on the radio is pushed, the flex does not have any capability to operate that way. The tune button on the flex creates a signal to trigger the automatic (frequency sensing) mode of a tuner. The power level is adjustable.
