MultiFLEX PTT dropouts

I am letting my friend who lives about 100 miles away login to my 6700 with Multiflex so we can be on our club 2M net. The problem is his carrier seems to cut out, crackling in and out, although he does has good audio so it's not the mic.

Any ideas of what may be causing this any suggestions would be helpful.
