Started UP "New" Flex 5000 using PowerSDR set up for FLEX 3000

I've been running a FLEX3000 for many years but just acquired a used 5000. To try it out I just plugged the power in, plugged in the Firewire cable from the 3000 and then launched PowerSDR that was already on the desktop. It updated the firmware and EEPROM and then came right up. The 5000 has the 2nd RX and those controls came up also.
Question is, should I do a complete re-install of PowerSDR or is it alright to use the same PowerSDR install as I use for the 3000?

Thanks

  • It should work as long as the computer recognizes your 5000's firewire connection (you can check with the Flexradio.exe utility). If BOTH radios are connected, it will give you a rig selection window to select which rig you want to connect to. If you are gonna use both rigs, I would (first) save the database you set up for your 3000, and then once you connect to the 5000, make the changes you want to suit the 5000, and save that. Then you can load the configuration when you use each rig.

  • For the most part it did work. But, two things in particular, didn't work properly. 1) When I would drag the panadapter or use my DJ Console to change frequency, the screen would freeze and then come right back to normal when I stopped dragging or turning the DJ Console.
    2) The visual noise floor on the panadapter screen would pop up almost twice the height for a few seconds and then go back down; but audibly, no difference took place. Not to be confused with a static crash.

So, I've gone back to the 3K and everything is working normal again.
