Most of the time I am using FT8 or JS8CALL or similar digital modes where neither my microphone, nor my headphone / speaker set up makes any difference. However, the DAX and CAT and PTT setup makes a huge difference for connected applications such as WSJT-X.
Once or twice a week, I need to switch over to single-side-band phone conversation through my Koss headphones and Flex mike plugged directly into the transceiver.
It takes me FOREVER to do that, even though I use the "MEM" function of the 6400 to store some of the info.
This evening, for example, I started out hearing the QSO, on 10 meters, but too garbled to be intelligible.
Messing with the AGC. NB. etc. I managed to get reasonable copy; when Pushed the PTT button on the mike, I got huge feedback noise that was (I assume) xmitted with my CQ.
My question is: has someone sussed out the optimal settings for (at least) these two modes? And if so, please send me a listing of the configs.
Missing out on a lot...
