Collins KWM2A with PGXL

Has anyone tried to use the PGXL with a KWM2 or 2A? I'm having some success. Triggering the amp PTT circuit in Manual mode with a foot switch but trying to adjust output power is difficult. I can "tune" the KWM in the Tune or Lock Emission settings and I get clear readings on the amp's output power level. I can peak it nicely using the Mic Gain control on the KWM2a. But when I switch to sideband, the amp doesn't register any power. Nothing wrong with the amp the problem is with the KWM. While in SSB mode If I increase the Mic Gain eventually the amp with register output power but its not smooth and easy to overdrive. I was hoping that setting up the output power in the Lock position would translate to the sideband operation. This sounds like gibberish Im sure if you're unfamiliar with the KWM 2A and how you tune it up. Anyway worth a shot to see if anyone has tried it. I've used a watt meter after the amp to see what's happening and it is as I discribed. I just don't want to overdrive the amp although it is pretty bulletproof.

BTW, I have had great success driving the PGXL with a Collins 32V3 on CW and AM. Lots of fun. I use a grid drive reduction method on the final of the 32V3 after tuning it up to full power. Works great and hoping to do the same with other boat anchors. KWM2A is the latest project. Ultimately I don't see why I would need any other amp for all of my gear. Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

    HI Jim,

I am probably going to be able to get my KWM2 on the air with my PGXL soon (I am just completing a shack expansion). I notice that you don't have any responses. Have you learn anything since you posted your question?
