Dead Flex 6600

Please HELP!!!!

Radio is non-responsive. Won't power up. Power supply is working. Cable is
plugged in.

For some reason my antenna memory wasn't saved and I transmitted
into the wrong antenna.

Seems like an internal fuse... maybe?

Ok, so it is back up, good. now keep an eye on it Howard. It is possible your SD card has some corruption issues. Corruption will show two types of problems. It can make your radio do strange things, start up problems, lose of persistance, The other problem is that it may even stop your radio from starting completely.

now that it is up and running what version are you running?
If your not up to v3.1.12 or the latest version of 2 then I would upgrade as soon as you can and HOPE it is not the SDCard and the SDCard doesn't crash again before you get the upgrade done.
V3.1.12 and the latest ver of 2 are supposed to fix the SDCard problem.

Bret, this is were it gets tricky. Only if your SD card is perfect is the upgrade any good. What has been happening is some people have upgraded but the card had some lingering bad data on it from the last version, now, even with the upgrade they still have problems. In this case the card needs a full format, or a new card to fix it.

Running 3.1.12 which is supposed to fix the sd card issues?

It has done strange things before. BTW are they ever going to fix the DAX problem when it

    becomes distorted after a while?

Also, this is making things harder to help people complaining that their radio is doing strange things. Is it an SD card with bad data, or do they need a factory reset? the problems that are showing up are very similar to each other. It has been found out that a n bad SD card can make the radio do strange things, messed up persistence, strange start ups, profiles missing or changed without the op doing anything. The lines have blurred. Now that the SD card problem is behind us, trouble shooting will be a little easier.

3.1.12 fixes the problem of a card becoming corrupt. but not if the card already has problems from before. I don't know anything about what Flex is working on right now.

After upgrading to 3.1.12, you should also do a factory reset anD restore your backed up profiles. This rebuilds a potentially corrupted database on the SD card.

If it would do it again, suspect the obvious. The power supply was on and you say it
was plugged in, but the plug could have been slightly loose. Check DC at the connector
on the radio to be sure you have the right voltage there. If the connection was to be
intermittent or poor, the voltage drop could be significant and hence, the radio seemed
to dead. Power poles can be notorious for that.

Yes, you can have a corrupted data base, but an un corrupted SD card. If he card is Corrupted a new data base will not fix the card. but we can fix the persistance data base.

To fix a bad persistance data base, you don't want to use a saved profile. Export your profiles with the preferences un checked, then import that profile back into the Flex with the preferences un checked. When you restart the radio a new fresh persistance data base is created.
