I don't use mic's to often these days, and rather use a hand mic when I do.  The FHM-1 I have with my 6500 is to me, just awful.  Is the newest FHM-3 better.

I took my FHM-1 apart and discovered that there is very small slots to let your voice in to the mic. the face of that mic a almost closed off. I modified mine buy opening the slots up on the front and now it sounds much much better. that mic face is a terrible design.

Bill, is there a way to tell a FHM-1 from -2 or -3 version?  I thought -2 was dynamic and -1 was a condenser type mic.  I have both versions but visually, can't tell them apart.  I'd not previously heard that a new -3 had been introduced.  What are the differences?

Deny, I really don't know. But my FHM-1 has pretty good sound now. It was so bad that no amount of EQ would help it...lol

The FHM-1 is a dynamic microphone.

My 6400 shipped last August with the FHM-3.  I still cannot find any info on that mic.  I assumed that it was an electret (condenser) type and needed bias on.

FHM-3 mic that came with my 6400 SUCKS! The PTT button does not even keep my 6400 keyed up.

I would submit a help desk ticket.

Have been using my FHM-3 for 6+ years, Thousands of QSOs. Came with my 6600M. Never a problem. Looking to get a second one for my Maestro C.
