What is Nickname?

Reference the Nickname input (under Settings -> Radio Setup), what does this number mean? My 6700's Nickname defaulted to a A391xxxxxxxxx number. Initially I thought it might have something to do with the unit's serial number, but that's not it. I was able to replace the Nickname Number with my Call, but now I'm curious whether this A391xxxxx number is important to remember and save?

You can put your callsign there.0

Yes, I know, and you can also put your call sign in the Callsign box, but I'm still wondering why there's a Nickname box?0

I put my callsign and “/ACS” to alert our Emcom volunteers that they are welcome to use my racked Flex too. I plan to train them remotely to encourage upgrading their licenses.

It might prove handy to use the nickname to indicate the radios location. If you operate from more than one location i.e. remote etc.0

I think you answered your own question. You can use it for what ever you want. The main idea was to have a place to ID the radio. In Mine I simply put “6500/GPS”.0

"curious whether this A391xxxxx number is important to remember and save?"
The answer is no it is not needed or do you need to save it- it is by default is just filled in as such - You can safely change it to what ever you like.

My 6700 goes by Fleksnes. The real Fleksnes was a Norwegian actor and comedian. He has put many smiles on my face watching his movies. Just as my 6700 does, putting smiles on my face ..0

i use the nickname to ID the radio type and call sign of the station
and
with V2 and V3 ssdr i can log into another shared flex radio other than my own and i can allow sharing of mine with friends.
for example
my nickname id is Flex6600mK3SF
and
friend's radio id is Flex6400mK3RH
with V3 SSDR i can run locally my Flex6600MK3SF from it's main panel
and
run SSDR on an ipad connected to my friend Flex6400mK3RH
and
likewise my friend can do the same at the same time from his end
and
we both know what radio we are actually using with our ipads....

I noticed when I inserted my call sign into the Nickname box, my call now appears on the LCD screen of my PG-XL Amp.
