Where Does Winkeyer Run?

Prior to my 6600M, I had never used a Winkeyer with N1MM+. I had always done keying from the computer using a pin on the LPT port. Despite warnings about garbled keying when the computer gets overloaded, I never had that problem.
With the 6600M, I have one of the CAT ports configured for WINKEYER. In N1MM+, I have that port set for WINKEY. I also have a paddle plugged into the back of the radio. It all works fine.
My question is this. Where does the WINKEY software actually run in this configuration? Is it in the computer or in the radio? I assume it is in the radio. Again, I am not having any problems at all but was just curious how it worked.

Not your answer but I made a Winkeyer port in SmartCAT. I don't have a physical Winkeyer but it works with N1MM+ Like you I have a paddle plugged in to the back.0
