VFO B Encoder Shaft Friction

I have a 6600M.  I notice there is friction when turning the VFO B knob.  It feels like something is rubbing and also makes a sound like sand is in the encoder shaft.  I have taken the knob off and turned the shaft by hand and can feel the friction and hear the sound.  Is this normal ?  Everything is working but would be nice to have a smooth operating VFO B knob.  The main tuning knob is very smooth and feels nice.  Thanks -Joe N3HEE

That is not normal. Best to start a help desk ticket. there were some early in production were some radios had the knobs pushed on to far and the knob would touch the face plate. Buy undoing the set **** and backing the knob off a bit fixed the problem. But this sounds like the encoder is not free.
