Maestro - ATU not "remembering" setting when changing bands in DIGU mode with WSJT

I am seeing an operating difference between using the SmartSDR v2.3.9 PC software and the Maestro in this specific operating instance:
I am using WSJT-X/DAX/etc on a laptop while using the Maestro (same ver) as the "visual" control head for FT8.
Maestro: I "Bypass" the ATU (no green light behind the ATU), change band from 20 (example) to 40 and the ATU green light is ON; change back to 20m and the ATU light is ON
SmartSDR: (same process as above) I "Bypass" the ATU (no green light behind the ATU), change band from 20 (example) to 40 and the ATU green light is ON; change back to 20m and the ATU light is OFF
Anybody have any thoughts as to why these two systems would handle the ATU setting differently? SmartSDR seems to operate the way I would "expect" - remembering the "last" ATU setting.
