I think there may be a fault but have no way of diagnosing this.
the radio info is:-
Serial: 3714-4168-6700-1264,
ID: 00-1C-2D-02-03-32,
RadioIP: 192.168.1.239,
Firmware: v2.3.9.112
ssdr version V2.3.9
I did try a roll back to V2.0.19 but made no difference.
any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Nigel - I cannot duplicate the problem here with a 6600M (same HW Version) and two separate antennas attached to ANT1 and ANT2. The noise floor changes slightly without the antennas being connected, and the antennas are slightly different, but nothing unusual. What you're seeing looks extraordinary to me.
I know it's probably overkill, but I keep a receiver guard on ANT2 because I only use it only for Rx. Good luck !
