Proper remote shutdown

I currently **** my 6700 on the LAN at home but now configuring it to run remote. At home I can push the power button and after the rig does its shut down routine, I turn off the power supply.... When remote I can turn off the power supply and thus **** the rig or leave the power supply on and open the plug on the back of the rig... either of these do not allow the rig to run its shutdown program....is this an issue or is there a better way to shut down the6700 when remote??
Tnx, Bruce AH0U

Flex 6000 hardware reference manual -- PP: 28
7.12 REMOTE POWER ON INPUT This RCA connector is provided for remote power-on functionality. When the Remote Power ON feature is enabled, shorting this input to ground will activate the radio - opening this connector will disable power on the radio. Refer to the SmartSDR documentation for information on how to configure this input. (Note: 3.3VDC Max Input.)

most folks use a wemo device or a remote power switch that pulls down a relay when voltage is applied, so you can control this via a web interface, or ios device.0

These were interesting questions and comments.. Something I will remember,,, thanks!!! Robert0

Bruce. The best practice is to have a remote switch on the power supply and one to control the REM ON connector. In general, you want to use the REM ON to power up and down the radio, but having a switch on the power supply provides a full **** switch if needed.0

I've just used a web power switch on the 6500's power supply. Bruce's question above asks is it a problem to "not allow the rig to run its shutdown program"? I'd like to know, also.0

I have other devices that, via the LAN port on them allow me to turn them on. Is their a way the FW inside the 6700 can be altered to allow power on via the LAN connection and skip all this relay stuff?

interesting idea.

There is no WOL capability for the radios.0

Shutting down the power supply does a dirty shut of the file system which requires the radio to run fsck on boot. It is best to use the REM ON feature which does an orderly shutdown of the radio.1

Can someone recommend a reliable remote IP switch that they have used and have good luck with!0

I assume you mean for power control? Then Digital Loggers is hands down the most reliable.

Not for AC power control but to tell the Flex to shut down or turn on! My Power is Batteries charged by solar!0

Tim, what is WOL???0

In reference to this question: Is their a way the FW inside the 6700 can be altered to allow power on via the LAN connection and skip all this relay stuff?
This is normally done by WOL (Wake on LAN) and that capability does not exist in the FLEX-6000s.0 -
Robert, I have a similar solar powered setup as you do and I'm currently using three Wemo "Makers", one for the Flex Remote on connector, one to switch my PC on/off and the third to reboot the flex by removing DC Power. Control is by a Wemo IPad or Android App. The Wemo Makers have been a simple solution to remote switching and have worked well most of the time, however there have been a few occasions when the US based Server has gone done, causing loss of control. I am currently installing a Digital Loggers 8 Way IP DC High Current Switch to replace the Makers, which I will retain for backup. If you only need to turn the Flex on and/off, a Wemo Maker would be a simple and cost affective solution. Good luck Winston0
