Noisy 6400M VFO Knob

My 6400M main VFO knob makes a slight scraping sound when turned. It sounds like a piece of paper or plastic is touching the face of the rig as the knob spins. Anybody know how this knob comes off so that it can be checked? It's not obvious to me whether it just pulls off or the rubber outer grip has to be removed to get to a set ****.
