SmartSDR ver2.0 upgrade question

Peter
Peter Member
I was just made aware of the new  2.0 version of the Flex software for my 6300. It was mentioned in the documentation that in addition to the new SmartLink there are "Numerous bug fixes and performance enhancements".

1. Will there be a version for NONE registered users with these  fixes and performance enhancements ?
I am currently on v1.10.16

2. Confirm that ver 2.0 cannot be used without registering ?

3. Will the $199.00 licences  ever expire ?

4. Are they plans for Android phone access as well ?

1,  Yes, there will be a maintenance release, v1.11.xx, released in a few weeks.  It will include the bug fixes & performance enhancements in v2.0, but NOT the new features -- SmartLink, pop-out windows, etc.

    2.  You are correct, you must purchase a license for $199 to use v2.

    3.  No, the licenses for each major release will never expire.  You can continue to use any version as long as you wish.   However, there will be a new license required for each major release (v2, v3, etc.).  If the new major release does not add any features that trip your trigger, you may continue to use the old license indefinitely.

    4. NOT OFFICIAL --  An independent developer wrote the iOS app.  I believe the same will be true of the Android OS as well.

And that independent developer did an excellent job with the iOS version.

There will be a 1.11 maintenance release. No you don't need to register and use smartlink to use 2.0. The license never expires. You get updates for all 2.x versions included. Any third party developer can develop an android app. Flex hasn't said anything about one but if you know an android developer who would be interested that might be helpful :)

Thanks for the very quick response folks. Just to note, I did install / upgrade to the v2.0 software to have a look but was unable to use it as I didn't want to register with a Paypal payment.

"No you don't need to register and use smartlink to use 2.0. "

    Then how can I use 2.0 ?

The wording should have been..., you are not required to purchase v2.0, but in order to use the new features in v2.0, you must pay for it ($199).  You always have the option to continue to use your v1.x version, and you will not be charged for future versions of v1.x.

You do not need to register for SMARTLINK to use V2.0

You can just start SmartSDR  and NOT Login to SmartLink

But you just click on your radio in the V2.0 Chooser

Thanks for the clarification. This is rather expensive for a feature that if was cheaper of free would make FlexSystems for palatable. Though I like my 6300, I can't justify $200.00 to be able to use it remotely.

When/if there are features in a 2.x release that you feel justify the cost, you can purchase it at that point.

You can continue to use the radio on version 1 with the existing features as long as you like. It will not expire.

You can use the other features of 2.0. You can connect to radios locally via the discovery protocol as usual.

Basically the regular method to connect to radios using the discovery protocol is still there.
