Is SmartSDR v2.0 ready?

Dear Customers,

As you may be aware, our software team and alpha test group has been hard at work developing and testing the new SmartLink™ software that provides native remote access from Maestro, PC/Laptop and Apple iOS devices for all FLEX-6000 Series radios.  This exciting new capability will be available in the soon to be released SmartSDR v2.0, which also includes a new and very useful pop-out panadapter feature.

We have been demonstrating SmartLink at the larger hamfests over the last few months with great success.  At the Xenia Hamvention in May we were able to log into any of a dozen stations around the world with just a click on the radio chooser.  Operating the remote radio feels the same as being at the station whether operating from a Maestro, PC or iOS device.  This weekend it was fun to show friends how I can run my home station from a restaurant using the SmartSDR for iOS 2.0™ iPad app over the cellular network at full display rates.  Of course your “mileage may vary” depending on overall network performance of the Internet connection.

SmartSDR v2.0 is now nearing Release Candidate (RC) status, which means if no significant bugs are found in the RC it will be ready for General Availability (GA).  If bugs are identified by the test group that are deemed critical, we will fix and repeat the RC cycle until we are satisfied with the quality and stability of the release.  We will let you know via the Flex Insider, the FlexRadio Community, and other social media as soon as we go to GA.

It is also important to note that soon after release of SmartSDR v2.0, we plan to provide a SmartSDR v1.11 maintenance update.  It will incorporate a number of bug fixes and performance improvements that were rolled into v2.0 development.  This release will also include a new 40 dB preamp gain setting on the FLEX-6700 for increased sensitivity on the VHF bands along with enhanced IMD and large signal dynamic range performance on the FLEX-6300.

Stay tuned…

73,

Gerald
