I am confused by several mentions of SmartSDR 2.0 recently.  Isb there a planned release date  where we can then purchase it ??

I think our appetites are being whetted by the upcoming "Dayton"  convention propoganda. Parts of its functionality will be demonstrated, but no official release date has been specified. My gut feeling is it won't be long now.

I second that! Holding your breath could be hazardous to your ability to keep operating your transceiver. I just get up and go to work everyday and don't think about it.

I was at the Flex Booth in Xenia today and they told me that the release will be in June.

Thanks for the info Andy. Are you hearing of any features besides WAN support?

What? That's a whole month away! I'm good with it, it will be here soon enough just like Christmas.

I was also shown the slice undocking feature and it was mentioned (not promised) in V2.  You can now take any slice and move it to anywhere you want along with the operational control console that is usually on the right side of the screen.

When you say anywhere you want, do you mean within the SmartSDR window, or can you move it to another monitor?

Or BY Christmas! Sorry, couldn't resist. It should be launched no sooner than it's ready to be.

Jerry I feel your pain. I placed an order this morning for a 6600m. Now I wait 6 to 8 months. Anyone seen my new ICOM 7610?

Thanks for the confirmation Howard. This is a good sign of what they have been working on for v2.0

Icom rep Ray Novak on Hamnation Wednesday said the 7610 displayed at Hamvention is a prototype as they hope to be in production in the fall.

The M6400 is the IC-7610 Killer as the M6400 has much better specs, 2 VFO Knobs at a lower price with much better software and Easy WAN Capability unlike that Kluge software that Icom is attempting to sell

Howard, lets revisit your statement next year. I think it's a bit premature to exclaim the M6400 is an IC-7610 killer. If market conditions of the IC-7300 are any indication (fastest selling transceiver to reach 10,000 units in history), I believe Icom and the IC-7610 will sell many rigs. Now, depending on what or how you measure "Killer" status, published specs might be better on the FLEX 6400M, but I believe the IC-7610 will sell many many more units than the 6400M at the same price point.

I will tell you what will happen exactly the same a when maestro was released, they will put all the energy in the new radios, and then maybe just maybe we will get version 2

Since the new models REQUIRE v2.0 to be ready it wouldn't make sense to stage one product after another. 73 Steve K9ZW

As was on display at Dayton, the ability to move your TX panel out to another location is big.  You can make it full height, but have 2, 3 or 4 separate panadapters/slices open in different windows located wherever you want to put them on any of your monitors, however many you have.  Each one can be sized differently according to your needs for that particular slice or pan.

This is very slick and adds much to the flexibility of the operation.

The new FLEX-6400 and FLEX-6600 will ship with SmartSDR 2.0. All other radios purchased from now until 2.0 is released will receive a free 2.0 upgrade when available. This includes direct and major distributor sales.

Tim, do you know when the Trade Up program will start? (I would ask what prices might be like but, you might not know or be allowed to say just yet) If the price difference between my 6500 and Maestro for a 6600M, is not too huge, (have CFO here to keep me in line!) I might make the plunge.
