This is not a SmartSDR CAT issue, but one where Windows is not properly recognizing the ports created by VSPE and does not inform the FlexVSP driver that the port is in use.  This is not a new problem.  Windows has not handled virtual com ports well for a very long time (at least 12 years  that I know of).

Time I tried to edit my post and for some reason when I finished the whole thing disappeared. The first time I hit send by accident. Anyway,  my experiences have been different with VSPE in the past.  For a number of years I used and still use VSPE with your Flex5000A and it works beautifully as long as SmartCAT isn't running. I know this isn't a new problem but I was simply reporting that while my install experience went perfectly this particular problem is still annoying as it requires that I remember to force SmartCAT to shut down if I plan to use hardware/software dependent on ports created by VSPE. F A little frustrating but in the grand scheme of things not horrible. Maybe it works better under Comm0Comm or VSPManager but my experiences in the past suggest that VSPE is the better application for such things and I don't feel like experimenting and getting myself into trouble!

Is there no hope for addressing this in the future or is the fix too Windows dependent?
