PC Microphone in Remote LAN operation
Hi,
A few questions on using a Microphone connected to the PC during "Remote" Lan operation.
1 - Why is downward expander not selectable / useable when opoerating with a PC microphone.
2 - When using the Spacebar for MOX it toggles "Remote" on and off until I opearte MOX with a mouse click and then MOX works with the spacebar, is this intentional.
3 - Smart SDR Crashes if I plug a microphone in or out of my PC soundcard. This is my only microphone attached to PC so "PC" as an input also toggles between available and Disabled in the Smart SDR dropdown menu. Anybody else have this problem.

Andy,
1) I think this because the DEXP function uses hardware function that is availabe in the radio codec but not typically available to the PC MIC/line input.
2) the space bar will toggle whichever SSDR button was activated last.
3) What verswion of Windows/SSDR are you using ?

Hi Al
Thanks for reply.
Thanks for the info I just thought that as compression worked then DEXP would as well. I presume the compression is done in software, I would of thought downward expander would of been easily done in software. A real shame as I was planning on operting Remote a lot on my LAN and really like the DEXP function.
Could someone confirm if it is in fact the case that the DEXP function is done in hardware on the Microphone input on the flex. If that is the case something in the Smart SDR software manual would be useful.
I am running 1.9.13 had to downgrade from latest Beta too many Flex lockups. I find 1.9.13 very stable.

Andy,
So far, I have been unable to replicate your SSDR crash when plugging the PC mic input with PC selected for mic input. The closest i get is a popup message for 'invalid audio input device'. SSDR continues to run. ( 1.9.13/1.10.9, Win 10)
I do know that not all sound cards or windows versions handle 'plugging' the same... I wish Win had not implimented that fucntion.

Al,
Retested and it behaved fine giving popup you described. I then plugged the Mic into the soundcard with "Mic" selected on the Smart SDR drop down and started doing another task on the PC. 10 seconds later Smart SDR crashed.

Regarding issue #3 - I have entered a defect report, #4406 in our bug tracker for further investigation.1

Confirmed -- DEXP is done in the radio hardware.0

I had opened a support ticket for that a few months ago and the response I got was that's a Windows issue, that SSDR needs an audio device otherwise it will just crash. What happens is that when you disconnect the mic it disables/removes the audio device from windows and when SSDR sees this it gets confused or worse yet tries to use the next available which may be a DAX device then throws its arms up in the air and crashes.
For what it's worth I get the same issue when using SmartSDR remotely. Unplugging headphones or mic will do it.1
