AT-AUTO Bypass Mode and back to Auto via USB?

Is there a way to get the AT-AUTO to go in to Bypass mode and then back in to Automatic mode via a USB command?

Looking at the AT-AUTO manual it may be possible as there are command strings for "Set Automatic Mode" and "Set Bypass Mode."

With that in mind would it be possible to send a command to the radio via the radio's com port and have it pass it on to the tuner?0

Chris,
Looking at the AT-Auto manual I think you could build the "Y" cable described in the manual. The Flex or DDutil would send the frequency data to the tuner. Then the 2nd RS-232 port from the computer would be hooked to the "Y" cable and you would send the Set command from the PC via some program you write. You would need to build the cable correctly paying attention to the ports xmit and rec data lines.
Not sure what you are trying to accomplish but that is all I can see that you could do.

The short answer is no. The long answer is that the USB cable feature is designed to only provide band data for devices, not control them. Is it possible to control them? Yes. Will the USB cable feature be expanded at some point to provide additional functionality for connected devices? Maybe, but not anytime in the immediate future.0

To tag on to this...
Is there a way via CAT command or other means to tell the rig to bypass the tuner for a while so I can switch to another antenna that doesn't need the tuner for a quick contact, and then turn the tuner back on for my main antenna that DOES need the tuner ... WITHOUT requiring the ATU to repeat the tuning process?
Use case:
I am trying to do some DXing on 80 Meters with an Inverted 'L' which needs a tuner.
I occasionally want to switch to my 80 meter OCF Dipole, which doesn't need the tuner.
The problem is that with the tuner in line, when I switch to the dipole, the dipole has high SWR and RX signal loss because the tuner isn't currently maximized for it.
If I turn the tuner to bypass, all is good, until I switch back to the Vertical. If I turn the ATU back on, it cycles back to tune the antenna, rather than returning the settings back to where they had just been before the switch, which wastes time and puts a carrier on the frequency unnecessarily. (albeit only at 10 Watts, but it lasts 2-15 seconds, depending upon the frequency and load I am matching)
I would like to be able to put the tuner in and out of line without it having to retune unless I tell it to.
Some may ask...."Why don't you just use on with ANT1 and the other with ANT2 on the rig?
The answer is that both antennas are fed with the same feedline and a remote antenna switch at my tower.0 -

Either I'm confused or don't understand. We are talking about the AT AUTO tuner that is the Kessler design, correct? When the tuner is switched from Bypass back to Auto it shouldn't try to do anything if the freqeuncy hasn't changed. You should just hear a relay click as the tuner is placed back inthe circuit. Also the AT-AUTO never initiates a carrier (at least not for me), it just respositions the L and C values for the given frequency. If I want a carrier I have to press the tune button in SmartSDR.
Let me know if I'm missing something.

My mistake...I read too quickly and assumed you were asking about the internal Flex-6000 tuner. (It's been a long day/week!)
