During Maestro Software Update to V1.8.3.17 at about step 3 of 4 the Maestro started displaying a grey box "waiting on hardware Initialization (W)".    I let it sit there for 15 minutes then recycled power however on startup I still get the same message.

Yep, same problem here.  Ticket placed.  The dreaded grey box.  Kind of like the dreaded blue screen!!!!

I didn't have that issue. But I have had a couple of lock ups on the maestro, which I didn't have happen before. Network is rock solid now.... much much better.  The maestro locked once while trying to go from 6m to 20m. The second time it just gave me an error while I had 2 slices opened on 20m. Interestingly, it recovered from the error but when I click DISMISS it closed the software and went into a blank screen... I had to power cycle the Maestro. As you can see in the picture, it also increased the BLACK level.

I will keep an eye on things for the next few days to see any problems, but mine is working better than before.

    I have the 6700.

I think I'm just going to sit on the fence till the issue is resolved.  Just got my Maestro. Don't want to stare at a grey screen !!   :-)

I didn't have any issue upgrading my Maestro but after thinking about it I would venture a theory...

When I was on 1.7.xx, the Maestro, even on ethernet wired connection, dropped packets. About 0.7%. If we combine servers overwhelmed with requests for downloads both of SmartSDR for windows and Maestro updates with spotty performance on the network connectivity of the Maestro we might be dealing with the install by some of you of a corrupted file.

Maybe Maestro upgrades should only be done while hard wired ethernet is used and not WiFi.

    Just a thought.

I do all my upgrades wired only. Less of a chance of a corrupt file.

I think wired might be the way to go but I was on a battery pack only connected to wifi and download went fine, using version 1.8.3 ?

Over the past seven months with NUMEROUS alpha versions of Maestro updates I have done 100% of my updates WIRELESSLY. This was part of the beta testing program to confirm that wireless updates worked flawlessly. I have both upgraded and downgraded Maestro wirelessly. No issues whatsoever. In fact my Maestro has never been wired in for an update.

Howard, your right. It's not a WiFi problem.

Problem is a CPU timing problem in Maestro.

Normal for a update started procedure is: download the needed file, check the checksum of download, make copy of actual memory for fall back, start update and in case of any error delete new one and reload fall back. Every smart phone do it, most of soft developer do it .... or did you ever send back a smart phone to your dealer for a soft error. Same your PC or any tablet ( and Maestro is a tablet)

    Chris

I have actually had an Apple update brick 2 of my iPads and a Garmin update bricked at least 2 Garmin GPS during an update.  Apple refused to fix both and Garmin refused to fix one.  So by comparison Flex has been pretty gopd.

The issue as stated is a timing issue with the internal CPU in a very few Maestro's which requires them to be reflashed at the factory.  Not a big deal
