Overnight is only because Same-Day is so hard to do!!

One should be amazed at how mail and private parcels whisk around the globe so efficiently.

You may pine for the days of the Pony Express, where a letter took TEN days to cross the country at the cost of what in today's dollars is a more than $120 (final rate was a man's wages for day, started at a week's wages for a single letter!)

Actually Burt what this is a great opportunity to point out is that none of us are in your school classes deserving of your supervision, and every one of us has the right to spend their money as they seem fit.  Period.

It is that individualism and self choice that is included in our inalienable rights.  Might not say specifically in the our nation's documents about a right to be free from the self pious judgments of Burt Fisher, but perhaps it should!

Give the guy a break - it isn't like he flew a plane in to pick his unit up for anything.

Spending another 2-3% for faster service is his choice.  Period.

By the way, just so you know I personally approve of your right to disapprove, but I do object to your lecturing him about what is "none of your business" as they say.

YMMV but I am looking forward to hearing his first reports!

Steve, agree 100 percent. I'm sick of progressives telling me how to live. Even if he did fly in with a plane to pick it up, I didn't pay for it.

The fist motto of our country was not "In God we trust." It was "Mind you business". There is some good lessons in that.

Agreed. What difference does it make. while i think some were not very patient waiting for a product being developed (Schedules slip thats nothing new) But if someone wanted to pay for faster shipping what is the issue? **** if someone wanted to fly themselves to get their own that would be their buisness. I also find it a bit rediculous how someone had to call the OP a liar that the units are shipping. We have seen invoicing happening its only logical that they would be starting to ship as they recieved payment.

People are pretty fast to pass judgement around here, Pretty unfortunate becasue one of the things i like about ham radio is that its a close knit community that is usually quick to help eachother.

I did not call him a liar. I said it appeared to be a hoax. Things like that do happen. And I apologized to him when he proved me wrong. As of yet, no one else has received notice of impending shipment. There would be a ton of "me too's" under normal circumstances. The invoicing thread proves that. Same when the 6300 finally started shipping. So, it appeared "to me" that it was someone's idea of a joke. Again, he proved me wrong. And I apologized for my statements to him. Let us all know when you get your notice. James WD5GWY

Sorry a hoaxer. And my comment wasnt totally directed at you the judgement passing has been happening alot all over this community for features to be added, releasing of stuff etc.
And i have seen you defending FRS in other threads so im really not trying to give you a hard time. Just venting a bit hihi

As far as getting my notice i am trying to be as patient as i can but itll probably be a bit as i ordered June of 15. Im sure they have a big pile of preorders to go thru.

No doubt they do! I ordered mine the Monday after Dayton. Matt said mine was the first call in order they had received. Talked to him a few weeks later about something else I wanted, and he said that the phones lite up like crazy shortly after my call. So, who knows when mine will ship. It will be interesting to see how it all goes. James WD5GWY

Over the past 7 days several things have happened in my life. I received my notification and invoice from Flex radio concerning my Maestro. A few days later I put a dollar in a machine at a local casino and won $10,000.00. I never gamble and I didn't need the money. Last night I got word that my long time friend Bob, WB0YWW in Iowa passed away after a 2 year battle with Cancer. Bob, fought hard and I never met a guy that was willing to endure so much pain in order to live. Today the the thought of getting my new Maestro and wining the money seem very distant and unimportant. Hang in there everyone! We will hopefully all endure this Maestro journey!

Sort of reminiscent of that commercial with the big ole Bassett Hound starting to salivate like crazy as his master walks into the kitchen.

I have just received my Maestro. I think the knobs are too big and too shiny; I don't like the S-meter colors; the plastic feels too much like plastic; and my microphone plug will not fit.

    Am I a bad person?

I was invoiced, I modified my invoice for folding legs, FRS reinvoiced me within 24 hrs, I paid and am now waiting for tracking #. I ordered at Dayton last year. When it gets here it gets here! Probably in the next 2 weeks.

When I see a NEW software release related to Maestro I'll know Maestro has shipped or about to. Until then it's nothing but rumor. Why would anyone claim something knowing it's not true? Reminds me of the Lottery winner, that worked at a fast food place, claimed to have the winning ticket, then lost it. What some people will do for a few minutes of attention.

From my perspective the clock starts when the box gets delivered to your front door. Until then it's all mental um...

I just hope mine doesn't arrive while I'm at Dayton.  I'll have to warn my cat-sitter to watch for it.

Just so everyone is aware of what is transpiring, we are pre-printing shipping labels.  If you happen to be registered with UPS, you may get a notification that a package will be shipped to you.  This will be for the correct tracking number for your Maestro, but it will not be shipped the same day the label is printed, necessarily.  So a note from UPS doesn't mean your Maestro has shipped, unless it shows the pickup from UPS.  Make sense?

I had wondered if it could be something like that. Not knowing the procedure for shipping like a company would do, I also thought maybe in the proccess of printing shipping labels, someone accidently hit Send, and the info was sent to UPS and their system automatically sends out a notification when shipping info arrives. I have received notices prior to actual shipment before. He posted his tracking number(at my request) and it showed first shipping label printed, then later, ready fo pickup by UPS. Thanks for clearing things up. James WD5GWY

It's all about your financial means, or lack thereof, as the case may be. If you have the Big $'s, go for it! It's called capitalism. Each additional hour without that Maestro in hand can be so painful.

Burt - I was using the correct "Total Acquisition Cost" expenditure as the denominator, not comparing the incremental from base shipping alone.

Also you move the lowest possible cost of shipping to the denominator, as it is an unavoidable expense (aka "Sunk Cost").

You are correct that the math isn't spot on, as I didn't factor in KA7GRZ's distance, and I don't have quick access to the bulk discounted shipping rates for bulk shippers (I'm not going to interrupt the busy folk here who have it).

So using full retail UPS rates you are right that the increase for Jim is likely in the 10% range when compared to his total purchase, if he purchased typical accessories.

Thank you for back checking my math.

And again if Jim had chosen to send someone by commercial flight to collect his Maestro that is only Jim's call if the value added is worth while.

As an example I had less than $80 worth of NOS parts overnighted with AM delivery for a plane, as the $200 in shipping was trivial compared to my other options.  Perhaps it didn't have to come overnight, but having one of my planes down was annoying.

I also regularly use overnight or 2nd day Air to ship delicate items like electronics or musical instruments or other special items just to obtain the improved handling, tracking/accountability and improved likelihood of avoiding damage.  Expensive, perhaps but well worth it to me for those shipments.

Disclaimer - I roughed the numbers up, used the UPS online retail pricing tool, and rounded everything off to the nearest ten dollars after making guesses what accessories might typically be in the price.  Have no interest in spending time running things to any greater accuracy and only putting these two minutes in as a courtesy.
