DAX per slice question

Got my new 6500 in and am trying to setup something here but not getting it to work as expected.(No it did not work with the 6300 either)
Looked up this topic and see several conversations about it but that was 2 years ago..
Anyway here we go:
Slice A, setup for SSB, TX set here and VOX
Slice B, setup for DIGU, DAX Audio streams set to this slice, P/CW DAX (here is the issue)
Both slices on same frequency...
What I'd like to be able to do and this does not seem to work:
Carry on conversation on slice A, other person wants to send something (anything digital for simplicity), at present setup without having to change anything it will receive digital something fine..
Now I want to send, I change TX to slice B, I then also have to change or turn on DAX in the P/CW window (make it blue) before it will transmit my digital signal.
When I go back to slice A for talk again DAX is still on and I then have to turn it off before it will transmit properly..
Can it not be setup so that DAX follows just the slice??
so in other words when I switch TX to slice B DAX is enabled, then I switch TX back to Slice A DAX is off..
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks
David

I just leave DAX on in SmartSDR all the time, whether I'm doing SSB or not. Whether this is what I "should" be doing or not, it has always worked just fine.
Before 1.5, I often turned DAX on and off in the DAX console, but that seems to be some sort of workaround for some bug or other. In 1.5, I've left it enabled there, too, and it seems to be working. I have always left DAX on in the main SmartSDR display. To the best fo my knowledge, it hasn't hurt me there.
You do know, don't you, that you get one DAX channel per slice and they can be individually enabled or not) in the DAX console?
I set it up so that different slices "own" a given DAX channel and configure my software with that in mind. That would seem to match your description pretty well, too.0 -
I did know that about the TX enable in the DAX control panel.. but I did not realize I could just leave on the DAX in the P/CW window... have to try that
After testing I found that if DAX is on, VOX does not work...
I was hoping to have VOX follow slice A and DAX to follow slice B, just depends on where TX is enabled
