SSDR receive filter passband ?
Steve G1XOW
Member ✭✭
I really miss the ability to customize the receive passband filters like I could in pSDR!
Is there any way to permanently change or store the low-cut profile of the filters? (even a work-around would do). In particular the default 100Hz low-cut when working DX on 80/160m is just not right. I often need to change it manually to around 250-300Hz to get rid of all the hash, and to better match-up with the DX TX shape (often around 300-2700Hz on the low bands).
Better still when will we be able to customize the filter profiles and store them like we could in psdr?
Thanks, Steve G1XOW

Definitely miss this every day. I have my own ideas of what I need.0

You can use macros in DDUtil to set any RX/TX filter width you wish.. Not as convenient but available option.

Hi Al, Is there any documentation you could refer me to about modifying the high and low cut-off points for CW filters using ddutil? I don't expect to ever see this wonderful PSDR feature to ever be implemented in SmartSDR (unfortunately).0

The radio (of course), and the FlexLib API have the capability. Adding the ability to define at least ONE custom filter is another of the "small and easy" SSDR UI features that would be great to see addressed. I'm still hoping for an SSDR release that focuses on such small UI enhancements.
So many small UI preference items to tweak... so little time, I guess.

If only there were some sort of template to follow. I mean, there _was_ a user interface before. It's like the PowerSDR design choices became the enemy. I still prefer how PowreSDR operates in so many ways. Programmable filters seems to me one of the most obvious features to carry over. So obvious, I never bothered to comment on it. I just assumed it was on the list somewhere.

From the DDUtil macro Reference ( available under the DDUtil Help tab )
DD6FIL Slice, Mode and Filter parameters Form: DD6FIL P1 P2 P3 P4 P5 P6 P7 ; Parm: P1 = Slice 0-7 {A-H} & 9 for active slice. Parm: P2 = Separator (:) Parm: P3 = Mode 0-5 {LSB, USB, CW, AM, DIGL, DIGU} Parm: P4 = Separator (:) Parm: P5 = Filter Center = 4 numerical digits prefixed with either a ‘+’ or ‘-‘. Parm: P6 = Separator (:) Parm: P7 = Filter Width = 5 numerical digits for the filter width in Hz. Uses: DD6FIL0:2:+0000:00250; Note: Above example sets slice 0 to CW mode and sets the filter center point to 0 Hz and filter width to 250 Hz. Use slice = 9 (DD6FIL9...) to set parameters for the active slice.
ORDD6SSF Slice Filter size Form: DD6SSF P1 P2 P3 P4 P5 ; Parm: P1 = Slice 0-7 {A-H} & 9 for active slice. Parm: P2 = Separator (:) Parm: P3 = Filter Center = 4 numerical digits prefixed with either a ‘+’ or ‘-‘. Parm: P4 = Separator (:) Parm: P5 = Filter Width = 5 numerical digits for the filter width in Hz. Uses: DD6SSF0:+0000:00250; Note: Above example sets slice 0 to a filter center point to 0 Hz and filter width to 250 Hz. Use slice = 9 (DD6SSF9...) to set parameters for the active slice.

DD6TFL would handle transmit filters.
DD6SSF would handle receive filters.
It would be nice to be able to set a slice specific receive filter using the same method DD6TFL uses, where you can specify the low and high cutoff frequencies. Maybe if we ask Steve - K5FR nicely he will add that ability.
I just opened the box on a new Genovation CP24 USB Virtual Serial keypad after seeing several post about it here in the community, It seems to me like it's the next best thing to Maestro while we wait for Maestro. I expect the keypad to be just as useful once Maestro arrives, It is able to do some things that Maestro might not ever be able to do. In other words I want both.
I also really like the fact that sending a macro from the keypad doesn't steal focus from all the other windows.

As far as customizing and saving receive filters there are ways to do that using FRStacks, and the SmartSDR memory dialog too. I sav my custom width filters as favorites in FRStacks, or just select them with the SSDR memory dialog. They are frequency specific so So I save a new favorite in FRStacks for each frequency I use the with. I like a 4k wide filter for WSJTX, and I have favorites saved for a few Ragchew frequencys that set 200Hz as the low cut frequency which improves some of the signals the Bass enabled are able to transmit.

I'd be happy if I could just choose which filters show up in the RX tab as opposed to having to pull down a menu in the slice tab. For example there is a 250 Hz CW filter which I use a lot that doesn't appear in the RX tab. Likewise the 2.1 and 2.9 kHz SSB filters don't show up there. There have been requests for this, and it is supposedly on the list, but it has been a while.

OMG.....I'm sorry I asked, Jay. I guess I'll just have to try to live long enough to see custom filters show up in a SmartSDR release.0

Looks to me like some of the "heavy lifting" (writing ddutil code to create custom filters) is being shifted back to the computer...and the user. I'm afraid I see the handwriting on the wall.0

If the 6000 series radios are an upgrade, the software should not be a downgrade.1
