Please, Flex, if you develop squelch, make it the Voice Squelch type, where the DSP uses a syllabic utterance detection algorithm. This way, the squelch action works extremely well with SSB, even in fairly marginal signal conditions. This is what commercial HF SSB radios do, like the current Motorola/Elbit Micom 3, and the Codan Envoy. The squelch circuits are fully implemented within their respective DSP code.
