SmartSDR 1.5 SmartCAT not working with HRD

I am using HRD with SSDR 1.5. Works OK here. Using Win 7 /64.0

Jerry,
Try shutting down your firewalls in your computer and modem (if you have one) long enough for you to test and see if that is the cause.

Jerry, I've got lots of questions... ;-)
1. Could you please post a screenshot of your SmartCAT and HRD CAT settings?
2. What version of HRD are you using?
3. Are you using the HRD main program, or MiniDeluxe?
4. What other programs use your CAT port?
5. What Windows version are you using?
Regards, Alex DH2ID (Beta tester for HRD 6)0 -
No issues here with 1.5 and HRD6 using DDUTIL instead of the main HRD program which is unneeded with the Flex.0

Using lastest HRD 6.3.0.417 (main program). No other programs with cat support. Using com 4 for connect and com 5 for ptt in DM780. Virtual port com 5-15. Windows 8.1. HRD will open but no tracking of Flex. DM780 will not connect to HRD, but will lock up. DM780 will show and receive text via PSK-31 via DAX. But will not transmit thru the Flex via DAX channel 1.
5-15.

I would suggest dropping HRD Main Program and use either DDUTIL or Minideluxe to pass CAT via telnet. Rather than slow serial ports.2

Nothing to add to that, Howard, you're on the spot. ;-)0

Your system looks ok to me, Jerry, but - as Howard writes below -
DDUtil or MiniDeluxe acting as a HRD server would work much
better, as you need only DM780, HRD Log and so on.

Just using DM780 standalone and seems to work ok with PSK-31. Overheard (read) a PSK-31 conversation that mentioned that someone else was having trouble with HRD. Opened a support ticket with HRD just for the fun of it.

Jerry,
I use Win 10, Latest SSDR and HRD and DM-780. When I am using DM-780 for PSK-31, if I change frequency on my radio, I have to make HRD Rig Control (radio screen) the active window by clicking on it. The rig control will then update it's own frequency and then the DM-780 will update.
To put it another way:
If the Rig Control (Main Radio Screen) is turned off or minimized or hidden, I will not see a change in frequency in DM-780. I must make Rig Control the active window.
I am working with 2 separate but connected programs. HRD Rig Control and DM-780.
DM-780 depends on rig control for updates. If HRD Rig Control will not update, DM-780 is out of luck.
lots of words. hope it helps,

I would STRONGLY SUGGEST dropping HRD Main Program and use either DDUTIL or Minideluxe to pass CAT via telnet. Rather than slow serial ports that HRD Rig Control Uses. HRD is absolutely UNNECESSARY and generate tons of useless overhead0

I was having this same problem with HRD. I contacted support but after several remote control sessions, they were unable to correct it. They had me reinstall SmartSDR...which I had done 3 times already...but to no avail. When v1.5 came out, I even went so far as to re-install my OS (win10) and then SmartSDR and HRD. Same issue. HRD suggested I change radio selection to Kenwood 480. This "sort of worked" but had issues as well. So thinking I could just bypass the problem with DDutil, I went that route. Although the radio connection is no longer a problem, I was having strange behavior from DM780 locking up.
I was never a big fan of HRD and wish I hadn't payed for it. In the end I just decided I was not interested enough to continue to hassle with it. I have since switched to Log4OM, Omnirig and Fldigi. So far, no issues.

Did the Kenwood 480 route and so far everything seems to work ok as far as digital modes and the HRD rig control. No hiccups yet.

Curious why anyone would, still be using HRD main program for Rig Control when it duplicates SSDR?0
-
Your right do not really need it. Just used it to see if it still works. Was more useful when I did not have the flex rigs but just the Yaesu 2000d.

Howard,
With all due respect to you. There are those of us that need to be taken by the hand and guided to our desired destination with great detail. I for one, would like to see you produce a guide for us on HRD with Flex. Similar to your article on shack grounding.
You will find more people following your suggestions. (me included).

Roy I am currently in France on an iPad since August. It's a bit difficult to answer in great detail until I rerun to the USA and have access to a PC0

When I loaded the new version of HRD with 1.5 this problem showed up. I used the Kenwood TS2000 configuration with HRD and all is well.

Loaded DDutil and used it with DM780 and works fine. Also, got the HRD Logbook working after downloading the MySQL and related database. Funning thing after the changes to DM780, the HRD radio control interface started to work with Flexradio/SmartSDR selection without resorting to the Kenwood interface. Software is very strange.

I like DDUTIL, and use it when I'm using the flex exclusively, HOWEVER, this does not solve the problem for those of us who have MULTIPLE radios connected (HRD will handle multiple radios, and pass the correct info to the logger for each)
I am having no luck getting my FLex-6500 to connect to HRD thru the com5 serial port that is assigned to slice A. DDUTIL connects, no problem.
I obviously cannot run DDUTIL and HRD main at the same time, so when DDUTIL is not running, I still cant connect to the port with HRD.

Have you contacted HRD to report the issue? If SmartSDR CAT connects with other CAT enabled applications on the same virtual com port and it does not for HRD, then your troubleshooting has proven that the issue is not anything systemic with CAT, but something specific with HRD.0
