My 6500 loses it's Network Connection on a regular basis

My 6500 regularly loses it's network connection. Sometimes it won't even start, other times it start playing up with either a very weak connection showing and then drops out or starts and then loses the connection after a few minutes. If I wiggle the lead going into the Flex itself, it normally corrects itself and can then be OK for the rest of the day. I have tried replacing the Network lead but this made no difference. It's as if the Socket itself is lose or not soldered properly but I could be wrong. My Flex has already been back to Germany to have a Power Supply fault fixed. The biggest problem is when this happens during a QSO. Sometimes I have to restart the rig. I use Windows 7 on a modern PC with very little else on the computer except MultiPSK & FlDigi. I had the problem before these were installed by the way. This happened with version 1.4.11 and still is a problem with 1.4.16

    Bill,

Here are a few questions that may help solve your problem:

    1. What is your network topology? Do you use WiFi?

    2. How long is the network cable?

    3. What is connected to the other end of the network cable?

    4. Do you have some other device which you can insert in between the network connection of Flex and the other device, such as a small switch?

    5. If wiggling actually helps fix the connection, have you examined the contacts in the Flex network port to make sure one is not bent or out of alignment?

    6. What network link speed is the Flex negotiating (10, 100, 1G)?

    1. What is your network topology? Do you use WiFi?
Not on this computer, it's strictly for Amateur Radio Use. There's not even a WiFi Card installed.

    2. How long is the network cable?
1.5 Metres (5 Feet) and I have already tried replacing the cable.

    3. What is connected to the other end of the network cable?
The Cable goes from the Socket on the Flex 6500 to the Network Socket on the back of the Windows 7 Desktop Computer.

    4. Do you have some other device which you can insert in between the network connection of Flex and the other device, such as a small switch?
    No.

    5. If wiggling actually helps fix the connection, have you examined the contacts in the Flex network port to make sure one is not bent or out of alignment?
That's the next step, to have a look at the Socket on the Flex. The Computer is OK and I have already checked this.

    6. What network link speed is the Flex negotiating (10, 100, 1G)?
VIA Technologies Rhine II 100Mbps Card

The problem seems to be getting worse so I might try changing the Network Card & try it on another computer to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks Tim, I am going to try a couple of adjustments to the Network Card Settings and see if that helps. If it does, I'll report back with what I did.
