You may have noticed that SmartSDR crashes when you run SmartCAT. When you close SmartCAT, SmartSDR runs fine...You may have received an update in Win-7, KB3035583. You will need to go to Control Panel --> Uninstall a Program --> View Installed Updates --> Type or Paste: KB3035583 in the search Box in the right upper hand corner, "Search Installed Updates" --> Hit Enter --> Find the update and uninstall. Have been meaning to send this info for a while. Sorry for the late date. This removes GWX update which causes crashes on all of my computers. de W3DCB Daniel

Thanks for the update.0

I think (heavy on the word 'think') KB3035583 is the revision that puts a W10 ICON in your Icon tray. Clicking that Icon will set your computer for the Windows 10 upgrade to be delivered to your PC on or after 7/29/15. I would get your PC registered for W10 before you delete the update.0

Thanks for the heads up I have had the same problem I knew it was an update from windows. If I don't run DDU with smartCAT and run my amp manually all works fine

This is true. I did register. If you do a search on the update, you will find that many others have found this particular update to cause all sorts of problems. While I did not experience any of the various difficulties described by others in the various W7 users' groups, my problem was specific to SmartSDR and deleting the update cured my problem. It must do more than just offer an upgrade to W10 and place an icon in the tray. I have received eMails from other Flex users confirming my experience...A word of caution or advice? I have decided against the W10 upgrade even though it has been offered free of charge. I am suspicious that either (1) it will be a "W-10 light" version for which the user will have to pay for a full-featured package/upgrade; or (2) W10 will have some significant limitations which, of course, may be "fixed" through the offering of yet another version soon to hit the market, i.e., W11 or alike. Am I a bit cynical? I guess. However, if W10 retains all of the W8 memory characteristics, it is not for me anyway and it may be difficult to go back. A quicker boot is solved for me by (1) the replacement of my mechanical drives with SSDs which have suddenly become very reasonable in terms of price with better technology which has eliminated problems observed with earlier SSDs and (2) by increasing the number of memory cores involved with the boot -- an easy adjustment. I still keep mechanical drives in my computers for storage. The memory characteristics of W8 while having made some improvements in RAM usage, speed, and data handling, still has limitations that would be better addressed in another forum. Moreover, In general, I have learned my lesson about software "upgrades." I am not just referring to W7, Vista, or alike. It took me many years to learn this difficult lesson. Human nature, being what it is, tends to cause us to always be looking for the newer and better product or upgrade. I am sure that many of my fellow ham radio operator comrades have experienced similar disappointment and aggravation associated with upgrades that sometimes cause more trouble than they are worth. After the upgrade, we are often left with hours of work just in order to get the blasted thing working as well as it did before the so-called upgrade. This does not apply to SmartSDR upgrades, however. Each Flex upgrade has delivered an improved product with better and improved operability with more features! I would never turn down a Flex upgrade. However, in other endeavors, I am sure that you have had similar experience. It took me many years to finally develop the discipline to resist the temptation to reach for any and every upgrade available unless it really offers substantial improvement like the Flex upgrades...Otherwise, I have learned, if it works well, leave well enough alone! Just my little opinion. de W3DCB Daniel0

Fully agree with all you are saying. I probably won't go to 10 until well after 7/29. I will wait for SmartSDR to be a good play mate with W10. I did remove KB3035583 but still experienced an occasional freeze. I searched this forum and found back about 3 months ago that if I set the DAX channel to 0 it stopped freezing. I am testing that now and it seems to work. Now, if this is a cure to screen freezes I am not sure what to do when I want to use DAX for PSK31. Got to find a cure for this, screen freezes is same reason I dumped my 5K a couple of years ago.0

We fixed the primary software defect related to DAX and the screen pauses in v1.4.160 -
That's great to know Tim, thank you very much. I will keep my eye on it and see how it works. 73 W0KRD0

The newest Flex update has cured all problems that I had w/freezing of Smart SDR with SmartCat and Dax. I had to reset my computer back to 4/2014 to get everything working with the recent Flex updates...However, the newest Flex update has allowed me to finally download ALL of the Windows updates numbering to nearly 200. SmartSDR now works great on all of my various computers as noted in my earlier post. Again, great job Flex! Keep up the great work! de W3DCB Daniel
