Compliments to Howard KY6LA on the great PDF he created on the evolution of radio technology and the explanation of Software Defined Radios! Wonderful graphics and a very lucid well done piece. Thank You! I am enjoying it immensely. Here is Howard's link if anyone missed it: https://www.dropbox.com/l/qMaun4aqLPf...

Yes, very nicely done. Howard, do you have any problem with us presenting this at our ham club meetings?

The reason I posted it both as a PDF and as a PowerPoint was that people should use it as a presentation to the ir ham groups. My only request is that you give credit to the author.1

I already did it in http://www.hamradioweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=26091, one of my preferred Italian forums, where we talk about differences between ANAN and FLEX. It seem it is the most debated question and your doc is a great help to get differences.
Thank you very much.

Glad that people found it useful. I am currently at the International DX Convention in Visalia California I will also be at Hamvention in DAYTON, OH and at Ham Radio again this year in Friedrichshafen Perhaps if you are at any of these we could get together0

Great. I always ask first. And people who know me know that I am not smart enough to come up with a presentation like that.
It's interesting how, with all the differences between legacy radios and SDR that the most talked about difference is the lack of knobs. That's probably the least beneficial but it's the most prominent.

Asi point out, knobs are only one of the possible human interface is for a radio The presence or absence of knobs does not define a SDR SDR can be made to have human interfaces with or without knobs So I agree that it is an irrelevant distinction0

As I said in a previous post, when Steve Hicks put forth the rhetorical question,"If a radio has knobs, dials, rocker switches, can it call itself Software Defined Radio", then shrugged his shoulders. Absolutely it was marketing and product differentiation. My answer was immediate, "Of course it can". In that sense I think people give Steve credit for defining the line between legacy and SDR.
