SSDR 1.4.3 radio update never finishes

After uninsalling 1.3.8 and dax/cat drivers and rebooted I installed 1.4.3.  I got the dreded DAX driver error on insall completion (created a help desk ticket already) and then proceeded to update the radio firmware (probably a bad idea given the DAX error) and the yellow progress bar has been at what looks like 100% for about thirty minutes now and no movement.  Anyone else have this trouble.  This is on a Flex 6500 that is connected to my router (getting a IP address via DHCP reservation) - client is MacBook Pro running windows 8.1 with latest windows updates.  Should I restart the radio or keep waiting?

Thanks and 73

Larry

I did not  uninstall anything Larry, but it took nowhere near 30 minutes to update the radio. I guess you can give it another try after restarting the computer, but the help desk is probably the best way to go.

The first time I updated to 1.4 I got an error. I just uninstalled and started again, rebooting the computer after uninstall and again after install before running the program. Everything worked fine the second time.

Same thing here Larry with  a 6300 & win 8.1   Restarted the radio and firmware is O.K. but Dax error is still present every time the radio appears in the start up screen.  I opened a H.D. ticket and they looked at it remotely but haven't figured it out yet. Let me know your progress... Any info may help  others with the Dax driver issue.

Thanks all, the radio front panel gave no indication that it was updating so I shut the radio down with single click of button and restarted it, ran the firmware update again and the radio shut itself down and restarted with the software update and pink light.  This took about three to five minutes and then when the radio rebooted itself avain the radio chooser showed the radio had updated and was ready.  playing with the remote feature and all seems well.

I've fixed the DAX issue - the error was with DAX TX1.  I found this device in the audio playback list, disabled it, then renabled it and its now working and I've had a PSK QSO this evening.

I saw something that might have been similar. In the past I've never had trouble with just running the installer and leaving it all defaulted. This time, the only extra step I took was I made sure both CAT and DAX weren't running (verified in Task Manager). I ran the installer, it wanted to upgrade the radio, it upgraded the radio which rebooted itself when thru flashing the new software, went thru the normal calibrating and finished as always with the power button indicating GPS Lock. But, the Radio Setup window was only a little past the halfway point on the progress bar. I waited several minutes, got bored and went in to go make another **** of coffee, when I returned about 15-20 minutes later, not sure, how long does a **** of coffee take, the Radio Setup progress bar had finished, (it now was on full tank) but the button was still yellow while the radio was just sitting there fully updated at this point. So I crossed my fingers and closed the Radio Setup setup box. It closed normally. I then found the SmartDAX 1.4.3 shortcut and started it, did the same with the SmartCAT 1.4.3 shortcut, and verified both were running and were the 1.4.3 version. Then I located the SmartSDR 1.4.3 shortcut and started that. The radio connected I clicked the now green connect button, and guess what it was just fine. Everything I expected it to do it does. FB. My guess is it was just the fact that the Radio Setup dialog never closed and was just waiting for me to close it since it was indicating in every way that it was finished updating. Does it do more than what I've described? How long should should I have waited? The difference I see is that my radio rebooted itself, and when the Radio Setup was hung, I closed it. I then didn't try to reinstall, uninstall or reboot anything. I just tried doing a normal startup by starting DAX and CAT first. while making sure I didn't actually click a 1.38 or 1.4 shortcut accidently. The install went pretty well for me, and even included a fresh **** of coffee, at no extra charge! It might have been luck, I did cross my fingers. image

    Weird IS!

Larry, i have sporadically similar issue on my MACiMAC with Parallels or VMware with SSDR since ver 1.0.  Background of the issue is delays with packet trasnferring (PC<->RIG) due to the different resons:
hi stream in the Ethernet, PC busy with an Backgropund operations like back-up etc, however i never seen it in case installingupgrade from the native Win machine - notebook Toshiba Satellite with Win8.1.    Always a process freezed somewhere on the last stage, in this case i am switch off my RIG and start with Default reset of the rig.

P.S. just personal expirience, rise the ticket necessary in any way.

On second attempt the radio upgraded - first attempt I don't know for sure what the radio was doing as I wasn't in the same room.  I think SSDR uploads the firmware and then waits for the radio to reboot with the upate running and when the radio update doesn't happen, smartsdr has no idea as it's just waiting for the radio to come back on line with the new code.  Have had this happen on an earlier SSDR upgrade with the radio direct ethernet to the laptop.  This time the radio was on the LAN with the laptop wireless.  In any case, all is well now and have several hours on the remote feature which is running well.

I upgraded my 6300 without issue, but when I helped my buddy 8P9RR upgrade his 6500, we ran into the issue described here. The yellow bar on the upgrade fills up completely but it hangs in there forever.

In both cases we did NOT uninstall 1.4.0 before installing 1.4.3

I noticed that in his machine (both PCs running win 7) the Flex 6500 never restarted while upgrading.
The Flex 6500 retained the purple color in the LED and the little displayed showed the UPGRADING message.

After waiting for over an hour I decided to shut down SmartSDR 1.4.3 and restart the program (we didn't restart the Flex or the PC, just the program). The upgrade button was available and we run it again. This time the upgrade completed correctly, restarting the Flex 6500 automatically.

Not sure why this happened, but wanted to describe what we did to get pass the upgrade stuck stage. Not sure if this is the appropriate approach but I felt that resetting de Flex was more extreme that just trying to restart the smartSDR software. Glad it worked.

I too had this exact issue upgrading my 6300.  I just ran the update a second time and it completed successfully.
